Meet Jay! He is C-FIT’s hardworking down-home country farrier (yes, you read that right! Farrier, as in horses, a very demanding job, and quite necessary here in good ol’ horse-filled Suffolk/Hampton Roads!). He is a genuine, goofy yet quiet, dedicated guy whose heart belongs to his pup Daisy Mae and labor belongs to equines (which, despite what folks claim, horses are NOT just like big dogs; according to Jay, they are very much their own animal, and ought to be respected as such).
Originally from Smithfield, Jay still lives in the house he grew up in. C-FIT Trainer Laura is actually one of his clients and, “when she told me that she was getting certified as a personal trainer, I told her I’d get her to help put me back together.”
Since working out with Laura at C-FIT, “I’ve had ups and downs, but when I stick to my routine, I feel stronger and far more mobile.” In such a demanding job, it has been eye-opening for us at C-FIT to see the toll tending to and taking care of these majestic beasts can take, but he shows up, day in and day out, for himself and for the animals. When it comes to juggling such a physical and demanding job along with implementing a new fitness routine, Jay says, “There will be no fair judgement for progress in the first couple weeks, so go slow and try to enjoy the ride. Getting through the two-week hump really sucks, but it’s worth it.“
When asked about what makes C-FIT different from other gyms, some of Jay’s genuineness blended with his snark that had us at C-FIT chuckling: “I would say the more boutique experience, the dedicated and knowledgeable staff, and just how much everyone who works there enjoys what they do. You can tell that everyone actually lives the life that they are helping you to achieve. It’s inspirational or whatever.” (Lol, but seriously; thank you, Jay!)
Lastly, Jay says “I would [recommend C-FIT to a friend], and I have. It’s an excellent place for anyone that you care about… You guys are awesome.”
Sometimes, when you already lead a physically demanding job, it can be challenging to start the process and apply your existing dedication to taking care of your own body so you can continue the good work you’re doing. Jay, we are humbled and proud to be a part of your wellness journey, are blessed to have you, and enjoy not only serving you but learning from you!
