Meet Benja & Jess

Benja and Jess joined our C-FIT family back in the fall of 2018, and have truly enhanced part of our community and culture here at C-FIT! We are glad and proud to call them our own. Check out their story below, in their own words!

Benja: I am half American and half Danish but grew up in Africa and Asia. Before moving to Suffolk we were living in Minneapolis, Minnesota where I was doing my PhD in Soil and Crop Sciences. I got a job as a Post-Doctoral Associate at Virginia Tech’s Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center and moved to Suffolk in October, 2018. 

Jess: I grew up in Colorado, but have lived all over the US, including in Seattle and Minneapolis. After I finished my Master of Nursing degree I joined Benja here in January. 

We have always worked out and finding a gym and a community was important for us. A quick google search and C-FIT seemed like a good match. I (Benja) signed up for a health assessment and took a couple of the classes. Very quickly I knew I had found the right place. The workouts were challenging and I immediately felt welcomed and a part of the C-FIT family. 

Even though we have been lifting weights for a long time, since starting at C-FIT we both have seen big gains in our strength and athleticism. Also aesthetically we see a difference! 😉 We both feel stronger and healthier than before and more confident in our training program and the results we are hoping to achieve. 
The community at C-FIT is incredible and the people we’ve met have become treasured friends in and out of the gym. It’s wonderful to spend time with people who are also committed to a fun, active and healthy lifestyle. 
What do you think separates C-FIT from other gyms/fitness studios in the area?The community, without a doubt. The personalized training and attention from instructors during the classes is invaluable – they incorporate your personal fitness goals and any necessary modifications into each workout. It feels like everyone is welcome, no matter their fitness level. There’s always someone there to support you, offer encouragement, demonstrate exercises, and answer questions. 

What would you suggest to someone just starting out on their fitness journey?Just start. Don’t worry if you think you won’t know what to do or won’t look “cool”. C-FIT is a really supportive environment and will guide you every step of the way. Even small changes can make a big difference in your health, so just go for it and start now! 

Would you recommend C-FIT to a friend/acquaintance?We already do all the time!!
